Exchange visit by Khalid

The Citizenship team was privileged to host an exchange between the Bangladesh project and the Kenya project this year. Khalid Hussein @urdu from the Council of Minority a partner organisation in Bangladesh that runs a citizenship paralegal project assisting the Urdu speaking minority community in Bangladesh, visited Kenya from the 18th of February to 28th of February 2017.

His visit was timely to say, as one of our partner organisation in Kenya Wajir Human Rights Network was having its paralegal training in Nairobi. Khalid had a chance to participate in the training for one day as well as sharing his experience and how they run their program in Bangladesh. @muktar

During his visit, he spent a lot of time with the Nubian Rights Forum paralegals going for out reach with the paralegals and also spending sometime with them in the office exchanging ideas as its only in Nairobi (NRF) where the paralegals all operate in the same office. @zena @makkahyusuf @yasahkym @Purity_Wadegu @Cnior @lauragoodwin

We also visited Haki center at the coast where Khalid was able to meet up with all their paralegals in the Haki center office. During this meeting the paralegals shared their experiences and challenges on the ground. Khalid also shared his experience and advised the paralegals on how they tackled some of their challenges in Bangladesh where their paralegals are scattered in 5 different parts of the country compared to Haki center where they are scattered around the coast. @Amani @AndrewOchola @Mwanatumu @Hemed @amoory After the meeting, @Lore the CEO of Haki center helped to organize a field visit to see how the paralegals conduct community meetings and we were able to visit @Khadija_shelali in Malindi during one community meeting.

Through such exchanges, there is a lot of first hand information exchange and cross country/program learning and we seek to explore more of such exchanges in the near future.

Thanks for sharing @mustafa_mahmoud! I am happy to see Khalid’s (@urdu) visit went so well and he was able to see many aspects of paralegal work in Kenya - I am really looking forward to a broader citizenship learning exchange in the near future too. :sunny:
