The COVID-19 pandemic and measures taken to contain it represent a major challenge for our community. Now more than ever, the ability to know, use, and shape the law is critical, but legal empowerment groups do not have the support they need to support the communities they work with.
We are aware that access to funding is crucial in this context and that many members do not have access to information on possible financing sources to respond or help to alleviate the effects of this pandemic.
Aiming to help Network members to be informed of potential funding opportunities, we have decided to start this topic and create a small google spreadsheet database of funding opportunities for legal empowerment activities in general and for Covid-19 related relief and support.
We will regularly share new funding opportunities we identify in this thread and update the spreadsheet. We would like this to be a collective effort, so if you know about a funding opportunity members can benefit from, please share it here!
How to use the information included in the spreadsheet?
We would recommend that you have a close look at the grant size, the country where the activities must be implemented, the submission deadline and the eligibility criteria before devoting time to applying for any funding opportunity.
Making sure that your organization meets the eligibility criteria and has the capacity to apply for a specific funding opportunity before moving forward with the application process will prevent many frustrations associated with fundraising.
Please be aware that the Global Legal Empowerment Network team cannot provide direct assistance to apply for funding opportunities. This topic and the linked spreadsheet have an informative nature and aim to help Network members be aware of potential funding opportunities.
Below you can find a list of resources that will hopefully support you in the application process for funding opportunities.

The recently published brief Grassroots Justice in a Pandemic: Ensuring a Just Response and Recovery can also be useful to you when articulating how legal empowerment groups play a key role in the Covid-19 response and recovery.
If you want to receive an email when the spreadsheet is updated, please go to the bottom of the post and select “Watching” status for the topic.
We hope this is a useful tool for our members!
