From May 30 - June 2, 2022, the World Justice Forum will host virtual and in-person conversations focused on learning and action to tackle the roots of our global justice crisis. The Forum will bring together hundreds of practitioners and changemakers focused on access to justice, equal rights, and accountability from across the world.
Working Sessions
The Legal Empowerment Network will host two virtual sessions showcasing innovative solutions members implemented to advance gender and environmental justice in their communities. Network members, practitioners, movement leaders and justice allies are invited to join. Details of our events below (all timings in Central European Time):
-
May 31, 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm: Gender Justice on the Frontlines: Grassroots and Institutional Responses to GBV. This session shares how, during the COVID-19 pandemic, legal empowerment organizations found creative ways to support survivors of gender-based violence in seeking safety and justice, and collaborated with governments to advance structural reforms. Co-organized with Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust (BLAST), THEMIS - Gender Justice and Human Rights, and Avocats Sans Frontières Canada. Featuring members @LinetteduToit, @titir, @jasminkafriscik, @hazellavitoria, and moderated by @Sabrina_Mahtani.
-
June 2, 2:30 pm - 4:00 pm: Access to Justice for Land & Environmental Justice Defenders fighting Climate Change. From the coast of Gujarat, India to the Gola Forest of Sierra Leone, communities have bravely used the law to fight off environmental degradation of their surroundings. In this session, we share ways for governments, companies, and advocates to create structures that support land and environmental justice defenders at the grassroots, who are crucial in our fight against climate change.
The Forum will feature many other sessions on people-centered justice with thematic and regional insights, featuring Namati staff, Legal Empowerment Network members, and partners. We welcome you to attend and contribute to these sessions. All online sessions will have interpretations in French and Spanish.
