Justice and the Open Government Partnership: Join the Discussion

Welcome OGP supporters,

We have set up the @OGP group for individuals and organizations interested in advancing access to justice in the Open Government Partnership. You can join the group here.

Together we will work to support Collective Action #13 on Supporting Justice for All through a focus on measurement and data collection.

Partners joining will accelerate implementation of Goal 16 through sharing best practices on data collection and measurement on access to justice that can strengthen the justice sector and lay the foundation for wider collaboration on the use of open government to support the rule of law and access to justice. This responds to the call to “Ensure equal access to justice for all,” in Target 16.3 of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and will require access to reliable data and the ability to measure the impact of justice interventions by governments and civil society on various populations over time as well as OGP’s Joint Declaration on Open Government for the Implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Members of this group are encouraged to share updates, opportunities and new resources on access to justice and OGP, and to discuss ways to collaborate in upcoming regional and global OGP meetings. You can directly reply to this message with updates or start a new topic. When you start a new topic please make sure to add the #ogp tag and mention the @OGP group so everyone interested will be notified by email.

As a way to kick off the new justice collective action we are hosting a webinar on March 15th where colleagues from OGP, government and civil society will be discussing how OGP can be used to advance justice. We hope you will be able to join us and share your thoughts and experiences.

OGP provides a wonderful venue to share more about our national efforts to measure justice and these efforts can be strengthened through our collaboration.

In case you missed it, the theme of last month’s Open Governance Partnership (OGP) newsletter was Access to Justice.

Please see a few links below for some relevant reading material on how the #OGP is working on access to justice at the national, regional, and global level, including a blog post by @StaceyCram on how the Paris Declaration and the SDGs can improve access to justice and a post on remembering Nomboniso Nangu Maqubela by the Global Legal Empowerment Network Team.

How do you think the OGP is increasing access to justice?

For more updates and discussion on the #ogp and its access to justice work, please join the @OGP and mention #ogp in your comments.
