Legal Tools Webinar with Namati & IIED: Using community by-laws to secure customary land rights in Kenya

Community level by-laws are at the core of the Strengthening Community Governance for Lands and Resources phase of the Community Land Protection process.

On November 16th, 2016, Namati collaborated with our partners at IIED to present a webinar that explores how creating community by-laws that suit local needs can be a powerful way of protecting the lands of indigenous peoples and rural communities.

Namati’s David Arach (@davidarach) and John Lengoisa (@SAMORAI) from the Ogiek Peoples Development Program presented on the by-laws processed used by Namati’s Community Land Protection program and partners.

Find the full webinar recording here to learn about the structure of the by-laws drafting process and hear stories of communities’ experiences implementing the process.

This discussion topic presents some of the major themes from the questions raised by webinar participants, presents answers from Namati, and opens up the conversation to all Network members to join in!
