Yesterday was Martin Luther King day in the United States. MLK lived by a militant, undying hope. We need that now. As he closed his speech at Riverside Church in Harlem, in 1967, in which he spoke out against the Vietnam War, he quoted James Russell Lowell:
"Though the cause of evil prosper, yet ‘tis truth alone is strong
Though her portions be the scaffold, and upon the throne be wrong
Yet that scaffold sways the future, and behind the dim unknown
Standeth God within the shadow, keeping watch above his own.”
Here’s to fighting for truth and justice in 2020 and beyond. We can sway the future.
