Namati is looking for a Communications Strategist!

A brilliant communications strategist with a killer pen and a passion for getting our audiences engaged with our work.

About the position:

As Namati’s Communications Strategist, you’ll develop and execute Namati’s plan for conveying our mission, our passion, and our work to the world, optimizing visibility with and engagement from our core audiences. To this end, you will:

Understand the CEO’s vision for the voice of the organization, our organizational strategic plan and growth targets, our development plan and funder engagement strategy, our advocacy goals, and our plan for expansion of the Global Legal Empowerment Network (GLEN), and develop an overall communications strategy for Namati that reflects these priorities.

Spend time working with, studying, and understanding each of Namati’s program areas in order to communicate effectively on behalf of each program and across Namati as a whole. This might include site visits to other Namati offices.

Serve as the owner and strategist for Namati website content, ensuring accurate and up-to-date information that maximizes conversion of visitors into GLEN members, advocates, and other engagement that reflects Namati priorities.

Create compelling narratives across multiple media and oversee development of materials from writing and editing to production. Examples include emails to our community of practitioners, practitioner and client stories, op-ed support to leadership, copy for our website, reports to donors, briefs on program areas and cross-cutting themes.

Oversee expansion of our online community and support strategic engagement with our email list.

Raise the profile of Namati and the field of legal empowerment by maximizing media coverage in local, national, and international press. Monitor coverage of Namati and partners in English and foreign-language media, and maintain and regularly update press contacts.

Serve as an in-house editing hub, improving the quality and consistency of our publications.

Oversee vendor contracts and budgets including PR and media services.

Support the recruitment and hiring of a Design Officer. Work with the Design Officer to revamp and implement Namati’s brand – aligning our look with our voice.

Here’s what you might have tackled in the past week:

Editing a research proposal for the citizenship program to ensure consistency of voice and alignment with Namati’s style guidelines.

Drafting an op-ed on the need for attention to community governance in land titling efforts.

Working with the Design Officer on the webpage for Namati’s newest initiative with Avaaz and the International Senior Lawyers Project, ensuring alignment between copy and design.

Writing up client stories following a visit to Namati’s Mozambique program, and mapping out appropriate placement for each: email blast, quarterly impact report, or a guest blog post on a global health website.

Prepping a social media strategy across Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Namati’s list to maximize buzz around Namati’s Justice Prize launch.

Reading the latest report on the long-term impacts of our community land protection program, to ensure you’re up to speed with the developments within programs.

About Namati

In a world where billions of people live outside the protection of the law, Namati is dedicated to putting the law in people’s hands. We’re building a global movement of grassroots legal advocates who work with communities to advance justice. These advocates are fighting on the front lines to ensure that people can protect their land, access essential services, and take part in the decisions that govern their lives.

We draw on that grassroots experience to seek large-scale structural changes – we have already achieved policy changes that affect millions of people in multiple countries. And our ambitions don’t end at the national level – our global campaign for internationally agreed justice targets has been endorsed by 260 organizations and four former Heads of State.

As we move into our next phase of development we’re growing a global team of passionate, results-oriented, and big-hearted advocates. We are united by a common mission and a strong culture. And we have some hefty supporters, including an advisory board with leaders like Amartya Sen, Mo Ibrahim, Fazle Abed, and Madeleine Albright.

We’re just beginning. Please consider joining us.
