Namati Myanmar release a policy brief paper on land disputes in Myanmar

According to the report released by the Land Investigation Commission, over 170,000 acres worth of land concessions has been sanctioned by the government to companies, the military, various development projects and government departments over the previous decades. Today, the previously confiscated lands are being returned to farmers. However, due to ineffective mechanisms and the lack of the right law that can be used to deal with disputes caused by land releases, we are seeing the aggravation of these disputes. This policy paper examines the ground situation regarding these land disputes using case studies. This paper also provides recommendations for the government to consider in their attempt to mitigate land issues. CSOs may also find this paper useful as the paper aims to provide some solutions and approaches to disputes.
