Paralegal curriculum

Dear sir, I am developing a community based paralegal programme and doing a research on how to develop a curriculum. Kindly refer me to any legal empowerment organization in Kenya which have developed one for there training.

@vincentotieno Thank you for your question and apologies for the delayed response. It is really great to know that you are developing a paralegal program in Kenya! We wish you the best of luck in this endeavor and hope you continue to reach out to the Network for support.

Namati has compiled some great resources on setting up a paralegal program here. I would encourage you to go through the ‘basic skills’ tab and explore some of the resources compiled there. Specifically on a curriculum for paralegals in Kenya, there are some resources developed by the Saku Accountability Forum (2016) and the Paralegal Support Network (2003).

There is also an interesting conversation on a code of ethics for community paralegals (Code of conduct and ethics information for community based paralegals) that you might find useful.

Lastly, you can check out some of Namati’s work in Kenya!

Thank you so much , i wish i could have joined this network sometimes back. Anyway good.

@vincentotieno, greetings, my name is Charity Kilonzi. I am a 24 yaer old Diploma in Law student ineterested in Community Outreach as regards to Civic Education and Public Participation. I have noted with careful consideration that parallegalism can be one of the ways I can actively participate in the developement of my nearest community. Considering the statement above may I please get to know how far your initiatives have gone and how one can start their own group of eager and passionate paralegals to effect change in the community?

@Charitykilonzi,greeting hoping that you are well, thank you so much for reaching out to me. It is quite encouraging that you want to start an initiative in your community. To start with, community paralegal is about passion in fighting human rights violations, you need to get like minded individuals in your community to support your vision. You need to form a small group and have regular meetings to strategise and come up with communication structures before getting visibility. Hope this information will you get started, incase of any clarification kindly let me know.

Warm regards Vincent
