#WalkTogether Campaign Launch A decade after Nelson Mandela launched The Elders, we find ourselves living once again in a time of great fear and division – but with one great advantage. We have better tools than ever before to connect with one another and to catalyze the human energy needed to bridge the divides of hatred, injustice, and ideology.
On Tuesday, July 18th, The Elders will be holding a spectacular event to launch #WalkTogether, a new year-long campaign leading to Mandela’s 100th Birthday. You can watch the event live on the new #WalkTogether Facebook Page or BBC World Service’s Facebook Page starting at 1pm GMT (3pm in Cape Town).
You can also follow the event via Twitter using the hashtag #WalkTogether.
The event will include speeches by Graça Machel and other Elders, talks by activists such as Richard Branson, and incredible musical performances. Namati CEO Vivek Maru will participate in a panel discussion alongside Mary Robinson, Mabel van Oranje, Maarti Ahtisaari, and Benjamin Grant of Last Mile Health.
The global campaign will be linked to The Elders’ core areas of focus: Peace, Justice, Health, and Equality. It will serve to lift the voices of others and encourage us to collectively stand up against the fault lines of hatred, xenophobia, and fear that divide us, by shining a spotlight on solutions and those who are leading through moral courage.
Namati is honored to be leading the segment of the campaign dedicated to justice. Please stay tuned for more on this endeavor in partnership with Civicus and Search for Common Ground.
