Webinar: Accelerating the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals ( Dec 7, 2017)

Together 2030’s new “Implementation Series” of webinars are an opportunity to discuss technical and political aspects related to the implementation and accountability of the Sustainable Development Goals and Agenda 2030 at global, regional and national levels. The Webinars aim at bringing voices from different levels and sectors to share their experiences/concerns/recommendations around the implementation of Agenda 2030. The webinars will focus on concrete issues related to implementation of Agenda 2030 and action recommendations.

December 7, 2017, 9:30 – 11:00am (NY time)

This High-Level Webinar is organized by Together 2030 in partnership with the United Nations Foundation

“We hit the post-2015 ground walking. We need to pick up pace as we move towards 2030”. Ms. Amina J. Mohammed, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Oct 6 2017.

To fulfill the transformational promises of the 2030 Agenda, governments, civil society and stakeholders will need to accelerate the implementation of the SDGs. As recognized by the UN Secretary General in the 2017 Sustainable Development Goals Report: “the rate of progress in many areas is far slower than needed to meet the targets by 2030”.

The Sustainable Development Goals Report also shows that progress “has been uneven across regions, between sexes and among people of different ages, wealth and locales, including urban and rural dwellers”. Accelerated and more inclusive action is needed if we are to reach the SDGs and ensure that no one is left behind.

Implementation happens at the national, sub-national and local level and it is at those levels that the translation of aspirations into action are expected to happen. Action is already being taken in different forms and promoted by a diverse range of partners and stakeholders.

This High-Level webinar will reflect upon current implementation experiences and discuss recommendations on how to accelerate the pace of implementation of the 2030 Agenda at all levels. This webinar will also celebrate the Second Anniversary of Together 2030.

Join this webinar for a discussion about accelerating the pace of SDGs implementation.

Greetings #advocacy group, did anyone get a chance to participate in this #sdgs webinar? If so, what did you think? What were your main takeaways?

Here are a few takeaways from the discussion:

  • A grassroots civil society organization in #india has developed a way to engage community-based groups from de-notified tribes to collect big data on tracking progress on SDG implementation from a “Leave No One Behind” perspective. #data-collection #learning

  • Indian civil society also developed a shadow report on India’s progress towards achieving the SDGs to go alongside the Government of India’s 2017 Voluntary National Review.

  • The European Commission spoke about the Spotlight Initiative, a multilateral trust which pledges $500million Euros to ending violence against women and promoting gender equality. #funding

  • SDG Action Campaign has a My World Survey, a community-driven tool to collect data on progress on addressing inequality and extreme poverty around the SDGs.

  • Looking ahead…the need for us to collectively focus our efforts on how best we make the most use of the 2019 High Level Political Forum to ensure that governments, civil society, and grassroots perspectives on access to justice and legal empowerment are included in the Ministerial Declaration and the high-level week itself. But also, how can the HLPF be used as a platform for governments to discuss challenges in implementing the SDGs when the whole world is watching?
