When environment laws/clauses turn against the environment

This is an example of how laws can be interpreted in a way that the purpose of enacting it itself is defeated. In this case protected area around a bird sanctuary was reduced using the rules regarding eco-sensitive zones in India.

An eco-sensititve zone (ESZ) around the Okhla Bird Sanctuary was declared last week. Such decisions are typically cheered by environmentalists and criticised by industry. This time, though, the tables were turned. Environments are up in arms while industrialists are happy, with the government joining in the celebrations. Why?

It would be interesting to know whether there are any similar cases in other countries where the tables are turned and laws meant to protect the environment are used against it.
