Widow's Rights in Kenya

Greetings. Among the many violations on human rights in Kenya is the violation of widows rights. This continues through harmful cultural practices such as wife inheritance, land practices that do not allow widows to own property, domestic violence among others.

These violations continue happening to widows despite the promulgation of the 2010 constitution that outlaws discrimination, as well as the enactment of legislations such as the protection against domestic violence act and the matrimonial property act among others.

The justice systems seems too slow that the widows are discouraged. What can be done to help save the situation?

There is need for more awareness and advocacy on the issues. There’s also need for collaboration with like minded organizations to highlight the issue and create more awareness on the legal process and self representation.
