I am looking to connect with global environmental research efforts intended to eliminate extreme poverty. Social injustices, health inequities, racism, and environmental conditions are all social factors intricately involved in shaping my life, career and perspective for the past 30 years. Even before my conception, these social determinants of health wrote the prelude to my formative years. I did not develop an appreciation for social factors in relation to health outcomes until learning about key public health constructs. Since delving into the public health field, I have developed a zeal and a passion advancing social justice in health by bridging the gap between community, science and policy. As a doctoral student, I hope to research the linkages between public health, the physical environment and food system practices domestically and world-wide.
