Regional Director of Legal Services and Community Outreach in Asylum Access Latin America

Lawyer, specialist in human rights, with postgraduate degree in Local Development and an Independent Expert against Torture. In 2013, he was honored with the International Human Rights Award from the Spanish Association ProHuman Rights (APDHE –Asociación ProDerechos Humanos de España) for his hard work on demanding restitution of rights, particularly for people in need of international protection. I participate in designing and coordinating implementation of Asylum Access Latin America’s Legal Services and Community Outreach strategy, at the national and regional levels, providing technical support to national and local offices in order to achieve annual plan goals and objectives. And also guarantees the quality of legal services provided at Asylum Access offices and accompanies Asylum Access staff through complex legal processes. Prior to joining Asylum Access Latin America, I served as Coordinator of the Sucumbíos Human Rights Office for seven years, based on the border between Ecuador and Colombia, and specialized in the areas of asylum and human mobility, gender based violence and grave human rights violations. He also trained and supported individuals, organizations and communities along the northern border of Ecuador, advocating and lobbying with public institutions while simultaneously conducting strategic litigation in human rights and human mobility.

My past experiences include teaching a master’s level course on Human Rights and Indigenous Peoples at the Central University of Ecuador as well as Labor Law at the Higher Institute Grow More. He has led several research studies and publications including a Toolkit for the Defense of Human Rights (2013), Report on Trafficking and Sexual Exploitation of Children and Adolescents in Sucumbíos and Orellana (2008) and Violation of Human Rights along the Ecuadorian border Linked to Extractive Activities (2007).
