Stephen Nkem Asek is a Governance and Anti-Corruption Specialist with a decade of experience in the field of anti-corruption activism, education for sustainable development (EfS) macro and micro organizational program management and supervision. He is currently the Resident Country Director of International Governance Institute (IGI) Cameroon, a citizen led nongovernmental organization affiliated to International Governance Institute (IGI) United Kingdom, a UK based charity with several chapters across Africa.

He served as an expert consultant on the joint UNFPA/World Bank Consultations on Macro-Economic Development Strategy Papers and Youths at the World Bank HQ, Washington DC. A consultation geared at amplifying the inclusion of youths in the design, implementation, budgeting and monitoring of Poverty Reduction Strategy Papers of World Bank Borrowing Countries.

In recognition of Stephen Asek’s activism in anti-corruption, design and development of participatory governance and accountability tailored programs, he has been requested by the National Anti-Corruption Commission of Cameroon (CONAC) to provide senior mentoring expertise and coaching to government ministerial anti-corruption units, notably the anti-corruption unit of the National Oil and Gas Refinery (SONARA), the Ministry of Environment, Natures Protection and Sustainable Development and the Ministry of Wildlife Fishery and Animal Husbandry.

In connection with the effectiveness of the work of IGI Cameroon in fighting corruption and strengthening communication mechanisms that enable poor people to raise their concerns and for their government to hear and provide feedback; the Minister of State at the Presidency of the Republic of Cameroon in charge of Public Contracts (MINMAP) has asked Stephen Asek to serve as a member/advisor of the MINMAP’s Central Anti-Corruption Unit, which investigates public contract fraud, monitor the awards of public contracts, implementation of the National Anti-Corruption Strategy (SNLCC) and development of counter fraud systems.

More so Stephen Asek has an extensive experience and track record in conducting high profile research, coding, analysis and data processing for various national, international organizations and academic institutions. For instance he worked as lead researcher and coding expert for Cameroon for the Varieties of Democracy (V-Dem) project of the Department of Political Science-University of Gothenburg (Sweden) working on a joint project with the Kellogg Institute at the University of Notre Dame (USA) and the Department of Political Science-Lund university –Sweden. In 2014 he was also hired as Cameroon lead researcher for the Global Integrity (GI) project to measure governance indicators in African countries.
