janevedwards

My name is Jane Edwards, I am English and a qualified solicitor in England and Wales. I practised there for a few years before coming to Mozambique with BMS World Mission. Here, I work alongside the Associação Moçambicana dos Advogados Cristãos (Mozambican Association of Christian Lawyers/AMAC).

With AMAC, I have been looking particularly into the field of land rights within an urban context. This is an area which I hope to develop further.

I have also carried out some research into the legal system and the role of certain access to justice organisations in Peru. It was carrying out this research, and in particular seeing the effects of the political violence in the 1980s and the judicial cases surrounding this, that inspired me to work in increasing access to justice for the poor, vulnerable and marginalised.

I am looking to join the network in order to benefit from the knowledge and experience that others have in access to justice work. And, in time, to be able to add my own knowledge and experience so that others can gain from it. As the African proverb says, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together”.
