I am a PhD candidate in Urban Development, currently researching on the relationship between gender inequality and land tenure security in urban areas, in Brazil. My main interests include gender equality, land policies and governance systems, housing access and tenure security, land conflicts and forced evictions, as well as access to justice, legal empowerment and the right to the city.

As an independent consultant, I work closely with international and local NGOs to strengthen women’s and communities’ land and housing rights through advocacy, capacity development and knowledge management initiatives, mainly in Latin American and Caribbean countries. I am also engaged with global discussions around the New Urban Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly interested in pushing forward the gender-responsive indicators related to land access and tenure security.

I manage the open knowledge platform SueloUrbano.org, which is the Latin American and Caribbean gateway of two initiatives of Habitat for Humanity: Solid Ground, a global advocacy campaign to improve access to land for shelter; and the CSO Cluster, part of the Global Land Tools Network – GLTN / UN-HABITAT. I’ve worked in the design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of projects supported by DFID, Open Society Foundations, British Council and the Brazilian Federal Land Administration.
